About our CEO

Hello,

My name is Mark Powell Jr. I am the founder and CEO of Patch Match Paints. I have been in the marine industry since I was 13 years old. I started by fixing small boats, and I quickly realized that matching gelcoat on a boat that has been sitting in the sun for years is a very difficult task. Many professionals spend hours trying to match sun-faded white gelcoat. So just imagine how long it took me to match faded white gelcoat when I was first starting out.

I took on the daunting task of trying to recreate the specific shade of white that matches sun-faded gelcoat. I spent years working to perfect it. Finally, in 2024, I developed a very particular type of white paint that matched all of my boats that had been sitting in the sun. I tested this white gelcoat color on other boats, and without fail, it matched perfectly. That is how I got the idea to create Patch Match Paints.

About Patch Match Paints:

Patch Match Paints has developed a color that replicates sun-faded white topside gelcoat. As gelcoat fades in the summer sun, the white pigment changes and becomes what we in the industry call “sun-faded.” Our paint is designed to match that exact color.

We know there are many topside paints on the market, but they all have one thing in common: the white paint perfectly matches the gelcoat color right out of the factory. However, after two, five, or more years in the sun, that factory color is no longer an exact match. After years of development, we have created a custom color that matches sun-faded white topside gelcoat.

My Mission:

My mission is simple. I want to make people’s lives easier. I have experienced the stress of trying to match gelcoat that has been exposed to the sun for years. I know what it takes. I want to make life easier for new boaters and for boaters who have been out on the water for more than 20 years. That is my mission.
